An Article about Magistrates' General power to make directions

MAGISTRATES - general power to make directions

This is a very handy section to remember when you are asking for a direction that is not ordinarily made. The Magistrates Court Act gives a general 'cover all' power to the Court to make directions that help speed the case along, in an effective, prompt and economical way.

MAGISTRATES' COURT ACT 1989 - SECT 136

Directions

136. Directions

The Court may, except where otherwise provided by this or any other Act, at any stage of
a proceeding, give any direction for the conduct of the proceeding which it thinks conducive
to its effective, complete, prompt and economical determination.
